What is Single Sided PCB?

Single-sided Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) consist of one layer of conductive material on one side, with the other side being used to mount various electronic components. This PCB is used in multiple consumer electronics, such as mobile phones, computers, and household appliances.

Single-sided PCBs have printed circuit boards made of a single layer of conducting material, such as copper or aluminium. This single layer is etched with an electric circuit pattern to form the necessary electrical connections between components.

They are lightweight, cost-effective and provide excellent electrical conductivity to ensure proper transfer of signals throughout the circuit. With their easy assembly, they are often used in industries ranging from automotive to aerospace and robotics. In short, single-sided Printed Circuit Boards are an ideal solution for various electronic applications.

Single Layer PCB Manufacturing process:

The printed circuit board production process begins with cutting, where the board is cut into its desired shape. This is followed by cleaning the edges of the board to remove any residue from the cutting process.

The board is then drilled with holes and plated through holes (PTH) to create pathways between the two sides of the board. A thin layer of copper is then added to the entire surface of the board using panel plating. Photolithography prints a circuit pattern onto the copper layer, which is transferred onto the board by etching away any unwanted material.

After inspection, the board is either plated with a layer of copper or tin to create a solderable surface and then coated with a protective layer such as conformal coating or solder mask. The board is then exposed to ultraviolet light and developed before being layered with a material known as prepreg between the copper layers.

Screen printing is used to apply a solder mask over the exposed copper surfaces, followed by dipping the board into a hot air solder bath. A conformal coating is applied, and components are soldered onto the board.

The board is then tested to ensure that all of its components are functioning correctly and inspected one last time for accuracy and defects before being packed in an anti-static bag and shipped off.
