Multilayer PCBs, or printed circuit boards, are the most complex type of board used in electronics manufacturing today. These boards consist of multiple layers of conductive material, typically copper, sandwiched between non-conductive fiberglass or other insulating materials.

The multiple layers allow additional components and connections to be placed on the board, including circuit components with increased complexity, such as microprocessors and amplifiers. Additionally, multilayer PCBs can often provide better performance than single-layer boards due to increased heat dissipation and a greater number of metal layers which can reduce noise.

When the number of components and connections increases, so does the cost. However, the additional cost associated with multilayer PCBs is offset by improved performance, increased functionality, and space savings. This makes them popular for high-end electronics such as medical devices, military equipment, automotive systems, and smartphones.
